Spouse/ De Facto/ Interdependent Visa Entitlements

Successful applicants receive a 2 year Temporary Visa. This entitles you to work in Australia, as well as access to Medicare and some other forms of social security benefits. In this 2 year period, holders are still required to pay overseas student charge if studying.

At the end of the 2 year period, the relationship will be re-assessed to determine whether Permanent Residence will be granted.

If you are granted permanent residency you then have the right to live and work in Australia. As a permanent resident, you are also entitled to receive public health care (Medicare). Generally newly arrived residents are required to wait for two-years (2 years) before you are entitled to any receive social security payments. 

Prospective Spouse (Fiancé) Visa Entitlements

Successful applicants receive a 9 month Temporary Visa. During this time you will be permitted to work. However, you will not have access to Medicare or other social security entitlements.

Once you are married, you will need to apply for a Spouse Visa, which entitles you to a 2 year Temporary Visa.

This enables you to work in Australia, as well as access to Medicare and some other forms of social security benefits. In this 2 year period, holders are still required to pay overseas student charge if studying.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa Entitlements

This is a temporary visa and it is valid for up to five years.

You may be required to hold private health insurance with a fund in Australia if you are the citizen of a country that does not have a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia. Your case officer will advise you if this is required.
