|Up to 3 years »||Start researching the education providers that you are interested in. Talk to graduates, current students and other prospective students.
Learn more about the location of your preferred education provider, what support services are available and your career options after you finish studying.
Email the education provider to find out more information and visit their website. You can also use this website for more information or directly to an Australian institution.
|18 months »||Find out the English language requirements of your preferred education provider. Many of the approved English language tests require you to register at least three months in advance of taking the test. Remember that education providers only accept IELTS results that are less than two years old as proof of your English language proficiency.
Make an enquiry to your preferred education provider and request the necessary forms for your application. You may be able to apply to your education provider online. Some students will apply through an agent.
|18 months »||Read all application materials carefully and make sure you are aware of specific or additional requirements. Remember that application deadlines vary between institutions and courses.
Complete and mail applications or email them if that option is available to you. Remember that assessment of your application generally takes 4–6 weeks.
|10–12 months »||If you have received a conditional offer of enrolment then the institution requires that you fulfil certain conditions before you receive the final offer. You may have to provide certified copies of previous studies, meet English language requirements or complete a pre-visa assessment (this is an automatic requirement for students in assessment level 3 and 4).
If you have received an unconditional offer you are free to accept your offer and make your first tuition payment to your education provider.
Apply for your student visa through an overseas or the You must apply for your visa as soon as you receive your Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE). Student visas can take up to 12 weeks to be issued.
Organise your health insurance. As part of your student visa conditions, you must have continuous (OSHC) for the duration of your stay in Australia.
|3–6 months »||Start exploring your housing options. You might need to put your name on a waiting list for on-campus accommodation. If your education provider doesn’t offer accommodation you will have to organise off-campus housing.
